What's up with Fragrance?

Thanks to the “fragrance loop hole” in the United States, companies can put a number of almost 4,000 different chemicals in their product under the umbrella term, “fragrance”, without listing what actually creates the fragrance. Fragrance formulations have been determined to be “trade secrets” and therefore can be well- a secret!
Because of this, companies can hide preservative, dyes, masking agents (that means “unscented” has masking agents to hide the scent of strong chemicals) and solvents to name just a few. Some of these ingredients are there to help products dry faster, or last longer. “Long lasting freshness” ring a bell? (Ahem! Dreft and Gain)

Some ingredients that can be found in that loop hole?

•Phthalates like: Bis(2-ethylhexyl) terephthalate, Di(2-ethylhexyl) phthalate, Dibutyl phthalate, Diethyl phthalate, Dimethyl phthalate, Dioctyl phthalate (known endocrine disruptors to name only 1 issue with them here)

•Allergens & Irritants like: benzyl salicylate, benzyl benzoate, resorcinol

•Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs) like: acetone, butane derivatives, disulfides, ethanols, isopropyl alcohol, propane derivatives. These are linked to chronic health issues like kidney disease and cancer to name only two.

•Carcinogens like: naphthalene, styrene, formaldehyde and other aldehydes, benzene, acetaldehyde, butylated hydroxyanisole

🔑 Look for transparency in scented ingredients like essential oils blends. We only use quality essential oils in our products and they’re there for more than an aromatic experience.

We will go into more detail about ingredients in the weeks to come! We really hope to educate and inform our community and slowly but surely put an end- or drastically slow down chronic health issues in our families.

Share this with friends and family that otherwise have no clue.
